The Kadriah Palace was built in 1773 and still stands through the ages. If you want to know more about the history of Pontianak City, Kadriah Palace is the best choice. This is where the city was originally established and became the capital of West Kalimantan Province. This palace is located by the Kapuas River of Pontianak. After the proclamation of Indonesian independence in 1945, Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie, who ruled Kadriah Palace, joined the republic and other Malay kingdoms in West Kalimantan followed.

“Kadriah Palace is always visited by the tourists, both local and foreign, every day” said Syarif Kasim Alkadrie, who always guide the tourists whenever visit the Palace. If we want to visit the palace, it can be accessed by bus that passes through the Kapuas River Bridge or by a private car. Interestingly, other than enjoying the beautiful architecture of the royal building, visitors can see relics of Japanese and Portuguese cannon in the courtyard. Inside the palace, the visitors are also shown photographs of Sultan Pontianak pedigree and his descendants.

Kadriah Palace has other several facilities for the tourist like floating restaurants, food stalls, guides, telephone kiosks, souvenirs centers, and rental speed boat to surround the palace. Not far from the Palace stands Jamik Mosque, which is the oldest mosque in the city. The mosque was built by Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie when finding a place to be used as a settlement. Aside from being a cultural heritage, this palace is also always used by the Sultan’s family as a place of recitation and consideration.
