Summer Course in West Borneo Conservation 2019

Summer course in West Borneo Conservation 2019 will be held on 10-19 August 2019 in Pontianak, organized by Environmental Engineering Department, Engineering Faculty of Tanjungpura University. With theme of Mangrove: Ecosystem & Culture in Tropical Coastal Mangrove Forest.
The summer course consists of academic & non-academic activities. Academic activities consist of four main topics: mangrove as a mitigation of climate change, mangrove biodiversity, ecotourism potential, social & culture of people who living around mangrove forest.

Non-academic activities in form of scientific excursion that will be held in Hutan Desa Bentang Pesisir Padang Tikar. Mangrove forest in Desa Bentang Pesisir is one of the richest and most complete in term of mangrove species in the world. More than 80% of mangrove species in the world can be found in Desa Bentang Pesisir. Furthermore, the forest also a habitat of rare mammals such as Pesut (Orcaella brevirostris), etc. The forest also habitat of mangrove crab (Kepiting Bakau) and wild honey bee that produce natural honey.

During your stay in West Kalimantan, You can also enjoy the atmosphere of Idul Adha (Eid Adha), one of the two Muslim main festival, and have an experience of the independence month of Indonesia which people celebrate it by organizing many traditional games and festival.

Submission deadline: 29 June 2019.

The selected participants will be notified by email and will have to submit some documents as well as pay the tuition fee of USD 350 (includes accommodation, meals, and scientific excursion).
