The Technical Implementation Unit of the West Kalimantan Provincial Museum held an educational tour called the Sepekan Museum Festival. The Head of the West Kalimantan Provincial Museum, Kusmindari Triwati, said the Museum Festival Week will take place from Tuesday to Sunday, on 6 – 11 October, 2020.

“The West Kalimantan Museum is present in the community in providing education, at times through various competitions related to culture and art,” said Kusmindari Triwati at the opening of the Museum Festival Week in Pontianak, on Tuesday, 6 October, 2020. Through this competition, according to Kusmindari, the community, especially the students will know and try to preserve various arts and culture of West Kalimantan. Kusmindari said the onslaught of advances in technology and information to some extent make people, especially the younger generation, starting to forget their cultural roots. “Of course, we must not allow this condition,” she said.

Some of the competitions held were galah hadang and uring gasing. “There are also contests for copying and reading poetry, coloring, and vlogging and photo competitions,” she said. Regarding the museum renovation program, Kusmindari explained they have made various efforts, such as bringing in experts to save the museum collection which was heavily damaged and rearranging existing historical objects.

She hopes the museum can become a public place that provides historical information as well as a means of learning for the community. “The museum is a historical and educational tourism destination. Let’s go to the museum,” she said.
