UNTAN To Send Eight Lecturers and Students Participating in The 2019 International Workshop in Taiwan

Rector and Dean of Faculty of Engineering of Universitas Tanjungpura with the participants of The 2019 International Workshop on Cultural Heritage, Community Empowerment and Sustainable Management of the Austronesian People at National Taitung University, Taiwan

Participants of The 2019 International Workshop on Cultural Heritage, Community Empowerment and Sustainable Management of the Austronesian People were welcomed by the Rector of Universitas Tanjungpura, Prof. Dr. Garuda Wiko, SH, MSi in his office on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Accompanying eight workshop participants, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr.rer.nat Ir. R.M. Rustamaji, Director of International Affairs Office, Dr.techn. Zairin Zain, and Chair of the Department of Architecture, Muhammad Nurhamsyah, M.Sc., met the Rector of Universitas Tanjungpura.

The workshop is organized by National Taitung University, Taiwan on 9-13 October 2019 at National Taitung University.

Universitas Tanjungpura’s participation in this workshop is a collaborative activity between Universitas Tanjungpura and National Taitung University. Both universities currently have an MoU, one of the implementation is the establishment of the Center of Southeast Asian Ethnicities, Cultures and Societies at Universitas Tanjungpura.

Representing Universitas Tanjungpura, two lecturers (Lestari, MT and Emilya Kalsum, MT) and five students (Gian Vicky Aristo Sinaga, Michael Vica Tendiono, Dania Al-Yakoob, Galuh Rizka Fitri Nobela and Janice Zaneta) from Department of Architecture and one staff of the International Affairs Office (MIfta Rahman, S.Pd., M.Hum.) will take part in the workshop as participants. One lecturer from Department of Architecture (Dr.techn. Zairin Zain) will be a speaker in one of the sessions at the workshop.

Accepting the arrival of the workshop participants, Rector of Universitas Tanjungpura advised the participants to increase the socio-cultural understanding among Austronesians (Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia).

This message was also conveyed to the representative of Universitas Tanjungpura who will be the speaker at the workshop. The Rector expected that the academic community of Universitas Tanjungpura can play an active role in this workshop.

“The nature of science which tends to be open requires perspectives from other fields of science to be able to understand a phenomenon. So, socio-cultural understanding among Austronesian people is important to understand the actualization of buildings as a reflection of the behavior of a community in dealing with its environment”, he said

Prof. Garuda Wiko also asked participants to be able to apply the experience and knowledge gained while in Taiwan when returning to Universitas Tanjungpura.

Requests to the participants, especially students, to be able to contribute thoughts and contribute so that Department of Architecture at Universitas Tanjungpura can give a good impression to everyone who visits, he added.

Before leaving the Rector’s office, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering thanked the Rector for providing support to the Department of Architecture of the Engineering Faculty and the International Affairs Office in participating in this activity.
