Head of Department:
Description:
English Education Study Program (henceforth, EESP) was first established in 1965 and became part of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Tanjungpura in 1983. EESP is under the Language and Art Education Department and is currently accredited B by the National Accreditation Board. The main goal of EESP is to provide quality education and training both for student teachers and also for in-service teachers. Aligned with the faculty visions and missions, EESP aims at creating graduates who have decent mastery of English as a foreign language (EFL) skills and pedagogy, professionalism as EFL teachers or educators, and good moral and characters. To obtain the Bachelor degree from the EESP, students must complete a total of 144 credits within 8 (eight) semesters. The curriculum in EESP is comprised of 5 (five) groups of courses: Language Skills and Linguistics, Teaching Methodology and Education, Literary Appreciation, Research Skills, and General courses (e.g., Civics and Religion Education). From these categories, it can be seen that students at EESP do not only study EFL skills and education, but they also learn how to conduct research properly and ethically as well as practice their literary skills. Moreover, integrated into these groups, students are offered elective courses that they can choose as supplementary yet important parts of their study. The elective courses are more directed toward EFL mastery of workplace skills, such as English for Tourism, Business Correspondence, and English for Specific Purpose (ESP) Programs and Development.
